We’ve been creating Halloween magic with our family group Halloween costumes for the last 13 years! We are so excited to share them with you for your own inspiration. Find details on each costume in the posts linked below.
When I found out I was pregnant with our first baby, I was in a pretty dark place. It was fall season and I needed something to help get me out of this funk. While there was so much more that went into this, creativity is what pulled me out and honestly, keeps me out. Whenever fall comes around those feelings would start to come back, like a negative nostalgia. I knew that I needed to create something that would take up that space. I began throwing myself into Halloween and fall activities. And our annual family group Halloween costume ideas were born.
Group Halloween Costumes for 3 People
Our first Halloween married we had a baby with us, so we didn’t have the chance to do couple Halloween costumes. I’m looking forward to dragging the husband along for that when we get old and grey.
- Peter Pan Group Costume: Most of our costumes are focused around one specific character or clothing item we have or love. In this case it was Tinker-belle. My older sister had brought home the perfect Tink dress from Mexico and we new we could use this in our costume for the year.
- Finding Nemo Family Costume: This costume is even more funny now that Brandon is a dentist, however we weren’t sure that was his career route at the time. I almost want to remake this one with him as the dentist and maybe make a Darla character.
- Little Red Riding Hood Group Costume: Our daughter had the perfect red coat for a Little Red Riding Hood costume. So we figured out the other characters and went with it.
- Winnie The Pooh Family Halloween Costume: This was a new-sew group Halloween Costume for families. Only a few details, paint and some face paint were needed for this costume idea.
Group Halloween Costumes for 4
We added our next little boy and we got to dress up for Halloween as a family of four for 4 years.
- 101 Dalmations: Is there anything better than a newborn baby? He mad the costume so cute being a newborn Dalmation puppy. Fresh out of the NICU, this was such a special Halloween costume all together as a new family of 4.
- Toy Story: Our friend had a Buzz lightyear costume that they were getting rid of. We couldn’t pass that up, especially when we were on a strict budget. The Mr. & Mrs. Potato Head Costumes were just a packet we bought and stuck to some plain t-shirts.
- Tangled: Our little girl LOVED the movie Tangled. Creating a Rapunzel costume with one of her favorite dress up costumes was perfect for this year. The tail on the chameleon, too? I mean, come on!
- Wizard of Oz: The details on the Tin Man costume are so great! It was made out of CARDBOARD! Can you even believe it? This was such a fun family Halloween costume. Also being pregnant was the perfect way to ‘stuff’ the scarecrow’s belly.
Family Group Halloween Costumes for 5
We added another baby girl to the mix. Check out these family costumes we made for our family group of five.
- Mario Costume: What better way to initiate a new family member than to make them dress up in Toad costume for Halloween? My favorite Mario costume has to be the Piranha Plant Costume.
- Shrek: We moved to Idaho and it snows in October, often. We decided to pick a costume where we could have layers – aka Shrek. Have you seen it? He says ogres are like onions with layers. Our little donkey costume was the cutest little donkey.
Family Halloween Costume for 6
The more people you have in your group, the more creative and fun you can make the Halloween group costume. It does require a little more time and planning – you have more costumes to come up with.
- Beauty and the Beast: This has to be one of my personal top favorites. Every costume from the teacup costume, Cogsworth costume, to the Lumiere costume turned out so perfectly.
- Aladdin: We lucked out! We lived in New Mexico, near White Sands National Park. Of course, I knew immediately when we moved there that we would be doing Aladdin for our costume. The landscape and lighting couldn’t have performed better if we painted it. We even made a Halloween Trunk for the Cave of Wonders.
- Wreck it Ralph: Our youngest fell in love with this movie. I knew it would be an uncommon group halloween costume. So I began making the costumes and it was so much fun to piece together all of the parts for each of the characters. From the card board game machine to the little pieces of candy in Vanelope’s hair – we had fun collecting and creating.
