We’ve been on a lot of road trips throughout our married life. Traveling with kids, and just traveling in general, sometimes leads to unwanted & unplanned messes. Kids {and adults} get car sick, diapers blow out, drinks get spilled, you get the idea. The only thing worse than being sick while traveling, is not being prepared. We’ve compiled all the essentials and how to assemble a road trip mess bag.
Mess Bag Items You’ll Need:
- Garbage Bags: Multiple – big & small variety {doggy bags work great}. Have a few that seal or zip to contain smell of soiled clothes or trash, until you can toss or wash fabric items.
- Towel/blanket: These microfiber towel/blankets work great. They’re big but fold down to be pretty compact in a zippered pouch.
- Paper towels
- Febreze – to help with smell {after cleaning up as much as possible} if you have to continue traveling
- Lysol/Antibacterial Spray – To help kill bacteria, and also help with smell
- Bottled water
- Crackers
- Mints/gum
- T-shirts {or extra clothes} don’t forget underwear or diapers if you’re in that stage
- Baby Wipes
- Clorox Wipes
- Clear Bag
How to Assemble a Road Trip Mess Bag
We recommend getting a sturdy, clear bag. We love these clear, zippered bags because they are inexpensive and you can see everything that’s inside the bag.
Gather all your items together. Organize them inside your bag and keep it somewhere that is easy to access in your car. We usually keep ours in the top area of our luggage in our trunk area or in the third row, depending on what kind of a roadtrip we are going on.
Additional items we like to keep on hand are throw-up bags, and basic medicine in our every day family car essentials.
Hopefully having a Road Trip Mess Bag will help you if you ever have an unforeseen mess while on the road.
