CONFESSION TIME: Okay so I am notorious for making small activities a bigger deal than they really are. In fact, I’m so much of a perfectionist that if I don’t have everything prepped for something that I’m working on {usually kid-related activities} then I don’t do them. Seriously, it’s a problem.
Let me explain, usually I try to have a week’s worth of small daily activities prepped for the upcoming week. This usually includes a list of daily planned activities, the list of items that are needed, those items on-hand, any printables printed, etc. If I don’t have all the items ready for the entire week, oftentimes I won’t even start with the ones I do have ready. It’s a weakness that I need to work on, I know.
Since school has started back up for Tylee it seems as if we really don’t have too much time. I mean, once she gets out of the school pickup, drives home, has a snack, does her homework, it’s usually close to dinner and bedtime. This doesn’t leave too much time for anything extra. So you can see that if we are to do any activities that include her – they have to be mega simple.
The other day we decided to just grab a box of Cheerios, some glue, and paper and let the creativity happen. And guess what it was super fun & quick.
Tylee created a masterpiece with her name and Camden just ate the snacks. I didn’t care too much as they are made with 100% whole grain oats, so they are way more healthy than sugar-packed snacks. It was a win-win-win. Tylee and Camden got to spend time together & they both loved it.
My favorite part of the “snack-tivity” was the belly giggles.
Just keep a few boxes of Cheerios and some squeeze glue on hand in case your ever in a “what should we do” bind.
Next time I will probably whip out some string and let the kids make some personalized Cheerios jewelry.
Hope this gives you an easy idea for a snack and activity. And remember the kiddos don’t really care. It’s all about making the memories & spending time together. You don’t have to make it fancy.
XOXO,
Camille
